First, I want to say congratulations! Moving into a new home is such an exciting step! Whether it is your first time as a home owner or your seventh time. Having a place you can decorate, fix however you like and call yours! There’s nothing like the feeling.
But first, I want to go through a list of things you should put on your to do list as soon as you move into your new place.

7 things to do after moved into new home
Change the locks
The first and foremost thing you want to do as soon as you move into your new place, is change the locks. Changing the locks ensures it is truly yours and that no other person that lived there before you, can get into your new home whenever they feel like it.
After we moved into our home we installed a keyless entry door lock and we love it! You can program it and enter your code to get into your home without using a key if you so choose.
Smoke Detectors
The second thing you are going to want to make sure is working, is your smoke detectors. Checking your smoke detectors after you move in is a must if you want to be safe in case of a fire.
Let’s be honest, no one expects to be a victim of a house fire. But being prepared and checking to make sure your smoke detectors work, will keep you and your family safe in case there is any issues that arise.
There are many problems and issues that can cause a house fire, whether it be an electrical issue, a candle left at home burning alone or a grease fire due to cooking.
So be take caution and get them smoke detectors working! 🙂
Change Filter
Changing out the air filter in your new home is going to be the next step you will want to take. My husband and I changed our air filter after we moved in and it was totally worth it. When we pulled out the old air filter in our home we were amazed at all of the dirty and filthy air that we were breathing in without our even knowing. Yuck!
Just imagine the dust, dirt and maybe even pet dander you are breathing in from the person that lived there before you did!
There’s nothing like having a piece of mind that the air you are breathing in is dirt, dander and dust free.
Light Bulbs
Changing out the light bulbs is another thing you should do. Changing out all of your light bulbs to energy efficient and energy saving is a must if you want to keep your energy bill lower.
Plus, it’s always fun to pick out the lighting that you want in your new home, whether it be a softer light, a white light or more of a natural lighting to put in your new home.
It really is amazing when you can go from a dull light bulb that makes your room look dark and gloomy to a bright bulb that brightens up your new space and makes it look crisp and clear.
Toilet Seat
I have to say for me and my husband personally, changing out the toilet seat as soon as we move in, is another thing at the top of our list. You just can’t beat having a more heavier duty toilet seat, instead of a cheap light plastic rental one.
Paint
Yes, painting! Now you don’t have to paint your whole home immediately after you move in. Unless you’re a real go-getter and have the funds to do so. I would suggest to take your time with that, but I would recommend painting your front door once you are all moved in and settled.
By painting your front door it will give your home a fresh new look and feel. I mean after all it is yours now, why not have fun and show your style to your new neighbors.
Pick A Scent
The seventh thing you should do after moved into your new home is to pick a scent. This by far is probably my most favorite part! Don’t get me wrong, everything you do to your new home is exciting and fun. But picking your signature scent for your new home is exciting!
You know how it goes. You walk into someone’s home and they have their signature scent wafting throughout their home. Every home is different when it comes to their signature scent.
So, go to the store, pick out your signature scent for your new awesome home and have fun creating the home that you love! 🙂
