Do you ever walk into a store and see all of the fluffy display beds? Do you ever shop for a comforter or duvet and see the picture of a fluffy comfortable bed but then you get it home, put it on your bed and it looks flat and nowhere close to the picture advertised? I know I have! To be honest I always get disappointed because I love soft fluffy luxurious beds. And when mine doesn’t turn out like the dreamy picture that was envisioned I become a little disappointed.

When it comes to having a fluffy bed you would think it would be something easily attainable. Just throw the comforter and pillows on the bed when you get it home from the store and then, poof! It will look just like the picture on the back of the packaging.

If you want a fluffy looking comforter or duvet, I have found that there are certain tricks you have to do to make your bed look soft and luxurious. After experimenting with my own bed on different ways to do that, I want to show you in this post how you can simply have a fluffy bed. So let’s get started! 🙂

Simple Ways to Make Bed Fluffy

The first thing you want to do is place your fitted and flat sheet on your bed. Once you have sheets on your bed, pull the sheets all the way to the top of the your bed.

Once you have your sheets ready you will need to lay your duvet or comforter on top of your sheets. You will want to fold your comforter 1/4 of the way down from the top.

Now that you have your comforter or duvet on your bed it is now time to fluff up your back pillows. A trick for fluffing your pillows is to throw them on the floor on all sides. Or you can always chop them with your hand but I have found throwing them on the floor on all 4 sides really gets them poufy again!

Then place another couple of pillows in front of the pillows that you sleep with.

Next is the decorative throw pillows to make your bed look more full and fluffy. I always think it is funny when my husband gives me a hard time about throw pillows on the bed and how they are useless. I always laugh because to me they are the icing on the cake! LOL Throw pillows are great for adding extra layers to your bed and also help make your bed look fluffy and comfortable at the same time.

What do you think? Am I the only one here?

The other trick to make your bed look fluffy is to add either a throw blanket on the bottom of your bed or a quilt. We use a heated blanket during the cold winter months. So we decide to keep that out and then once summer comes we just fold a light quilt or throw blanket at the foot of our bed.

You will want to line up your blanket at the foot of your bed. Then you will fold it in half until the blanket is even.

You can either leave the blanket folded in half or you can fold a corner like I usually do upwards.

It is totally up to you and how you want your blanket at the bottom of your bed to look. Feel free to experiment with your bed by folding your comforter, adding extra pillows, or layering an extra blanket or quilt onto the foot of your bed. These are some easy ways that I do to make our bed look more full and fluffy.

Why Does My Duvet Look Flat?

If you have a duvet and it is still looking flat, there are reasons why it is looking that way. I love my duvet but I have found that my duvet was flat and not as fluffy and luxurious as I was wanting it to look. The trick to having a fluffier duvet is to have more than one insert.

Some duvet inserts are fluffier than others as well. So, it just depends. Some duvet inserts are true feather down and therefore create a more fluffy, cozy feeling bed and make your duvet not look so flat. Other duvet inserts are synthetic down and therefore are not near as fluffy and are more flat, so you will have to add another insert with it to make it look more fluffy.

The reason they have so much down alternative duvet inserts is because some people can find themselves allergic to the goose or duck feathers in the comforter. So, if you are not allergic to feathers, then a down comforter will be what you want to get to make your duvet not look near as flat and without having to have 2 inserts in your duvet cover.

How to Make Duvet Look Full?

Another great tip that I like to use to make our duvet look fuller, is if you have a comforter that you bought for your bed, then instead of storing it you can throw the comforter in with your duvet insert. We have a queen sized bed and we always buy King sized bedding because we like our comforters being bigger and draping down the bed more.
So, instead of storing our comforter and purchasing another duvet insert, I decided to use it as a second insert to make our duvet a little more full and not as flat. It works great!

The only thing is if you are going to do that then the duvet clips will not work by themselves because they only stretch so far and having a thick comforter on top of our duvet insert is too much. So, instead I usually rubber band all four sides, that way the duvet stays in place and then if I can fit the duvet clip as an extra gripper, I will use that to secure the blankets together even more, to ensure that the rubber bands do not slide off.
