Subtle Ways to Decorate With Plaid in your Home

Before I get started into how I decorate with plaid around my home. I want you to know to not overthink or be afraid to add plaid in with your everyday decor in your home. You would be surprised how easy it is to implement plaid into your everyday decorating and plus you don’t have to overdo it either. So with that. Let’s get started!

Front Door

On my front door I have a summer wreath that I had made and I added this cute little plaid bow to it. I do love the farmhouse decor that you see everywhere and though my home isn’t really decorated farmhouse style I thought it would be a cute addition to what I already have going on in my living room.

Living Room

In my living room I have a few plaid pieces. On my living way entry way table I have a plaid runner showcased. I have used this plaid runner in my living room for a few years during the summer, fall and winter months.

Below my entry way table I have a plaid basket where I store mail until I have a moment to sort through it. This basket has been under my entry way table for quite awhile and I am still in love with it.

These plaid Pillows I have on my living room couch. Even though they are not black like the runner, I love them because they go perfect with my neutral rug and couches. I do have some black plaid throw pillows but I have those on our bed in our bedroom during the remaining winter months.

In my living room I also have a red plaid table cloth that my grandma had made. I use it as a runner over our little fireplace that we have. It not only has a lot of sentimental value to me but I really like how it looks in my living room over the fireplace.

I also have a wooden tray with some books and a cute little glass house that I had found at the thrift store to add a little more character to the fireplace instead of it just being empty on top with a table cloth.

Master Bedroom

In our master bedroom I have a plaid runner on our dresser and I also have some black plaid throw pillows to add to our bed for the remaining winter months. I also added a cute black and white oblong tree pillow cover! Isn’t it cute! Here is one I found kind of similar to it.

What goes well with Plaid?

Another question you may have when it comes to adding plaid into your home decorating is what goes well with it? Surprisingly there is no right or wrong way when decorating with plaid. You can decorate with plaid in your home by adding more rustic features into your home. Think tons of rustic wood pieces, furniture and more! Of course, plaid goes very well if you are going for more of the farmhouse look.

Plain colors are another thing that goes well with plaid. Try adding plain throw pillows next to the plaid or you can even opt for a cute oblong pillow with wording to throw in front of them.

Have fun and experiment with different throw pillows next to the plaid and see what you like best, because there is no right or wrong way when it comes to adding and decorating with plaid in your home.

Is it Ok To Mix Patterns When Decorating?

Yes! It is ok to mix patterns when decorating. The trick is to not overdo it and make your room busy with all kinds of patterns. But in moderation mixing and matching with patterns is a great option to decorate your space.

What Colors Go Well With Plaid?

When it comes to adding colors in with plaid, it is perfectly fine to mix and add colors in with plaid. The best colors to add with plaid is red (for the Christmas holidays), blue, yellow, green and of course ivory. I have ivory plain throw pillows with my brown plaid pillows on my couch.

Of course there are a ton of cute plaid colors to choose from, so instead of the traditional black you can always opt for some cute colored plaid throw pillows to add a little bit more color in your living room or bedroom.
