I know for me under the kitchen sink always seems to become cluttered. It doesn’t seem to take long and then it is soon overflowing with cleaners, sponges, trash bags and every other cleaning item you can think of.

Have you ever found yourself digging around under the kitchen sink for cleaning items that have been lost to previous disorganization?  That is how I was starting to feel. I knew that I saw a cleaning sponge under my sink, but when I went to look for it. It is like it vanished.

I don’t know about you but I hate the feeling of not being able to find what I need when I need it. It can be frustrating using time that you were wanting to use to get a chore done, looking for something in a disorganized mess. And let me tell you, you don’t have to have that perfect organizing basket or under the sink organization kit to be able to start on organizing and clearing up under your kitchen sink. Here is How I organized using stuff I had around the home to tackle my organizing project and how you can organize under your kitchen sink as well!

How to Organize under Kitchen Sink

As you can see, under my kitchen sink had become quite disorganized and a huge mess. It’s a wonder how I found anything. The first thing I did to tackle this mess was completely empty and take out everything. I always do better when it is empty and I feel like I am starting from scratch.

Once I emptied out everything from under the sink, I then sprayed it with a cleaner and wiped out to get all dirt residue off. From here it is up to you if you want to lay down contact paper or some kind of shelf liner. Under my kitchen sink was already contact paper. It was still in good condition, so I decided to leave it and then start my organizing project.

Throw out Old Cleaners

Once you have everything pulled out, now it is time to go through and throw out empty cleaning bottles if there are any. Place and organize your cleaning bottles on one side to where they can be easily accessible and where they have their own space instead of all over under your kitchen sink.

I also set a roll of garbage bags and dishwasher pods on the same side.

Plastic Bins or Boxes

Bins and boxes are a great way to help you organize and keep stuff together better under your kitchen sink. I use a plastic bin to keep my sponges, cleaning items and a few of my pet accessories such as: brushes and nail trimmers. Here are some similar small white bins.

And then I used a small cardboard box to store all of my cleaning rags, microfiber cloths and mop cloths in.

To hide the outside of the cardboard box, I wrapped contact paper on the outside to make it look a little nicer.

Organize Grocery Bags

Another thing that has saved me when it comes to organizing all of my grocery bags, is using a Glad Trash bag box. I know it may sound strange but it works so well! Haha! It has a front opening so that I can easily place and pull out grocery bags as I need them.

I keep and use grocery bags as garbage bags in my smaller trash cans in my bathrooms. It saves me from having to buy small trash bags. Plus, you never know when you need a small bag with a handle.

I have this nice wooden box that I use as a upright shelf to keep my bags where I can reach them and then I have some floor cleaners stored on top and below the box.

I have seriously used this box for everything. It has been a shelf for me to store things in and then I have used it as a stand like I have here. I couldn’t find anything similar to link to, but I’m sure you could find something similar at a craft store or something.

The last thing I did was added a small metal trash can. I find it easier to have a small trash can under my sink for me to throw in dirty rags and towels and keep them stored there until laundry day! Having a small trash can under your sink is definitely not needed, it is strictly your preference.
